Social Networking: A way to connect authors with readers
Local romance authors to learn how to promote their books through social media

BOW, NH (August 8, 2009) -- The skyrocketing popularity of social networking has changed not only how the world socializes, but also how businesses market themselves. And on September 12th at the Baker Free Library in Bow, the New Hampshire Romance Writers of America will kick off their first meeting of the year learning how social media sites like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter can help them market their work to readers.

"Writers are thought provokers. They write in order to make others think, imagine, dream, visualize and ponder. Those are the best qualities of successful social media enthusiasts. At its very best, social media is about provoking thought and creating insight," says guest speaker Laurie Storey-Manseau, principal of the marketing firm StoreyManseau LLC, who will be presenting the workshop. "Businesses realize that marketing is not just about a one-way street of promotion. Now, there's a back and forth with potential customers, and exchange of ideas, thoughts and conversation. If you're going to engage customers through social media, you have to be prepared to listen to them."

And Storey-Manseau would know, she utilizes social media in her working-mother blog "Walking In My Sleep." But more than that, Storey-Manseau is owner of the award-winning Concord-based marketing firm where she provides counsel and support to her clients regarding marketing strategies, advertising, media relations and more.

"Having Laurie as our guest speaker will be an enormous benefit to our members, many of whom have never before had to promote themselves or their writing. Learning how to market themselves, with a cost effective tool such as social media, will greatly improve their ability to become successful career authors." Comments Tammy Hooker of Barre, Vt., the chapter's vice president of programs. "That's what NHRWA is here for, to help authors reach their goal of publication."

The organization offers monthly workshops covering all aspects of writing, from craft to research, from the life of a writer to the business side of their careers. It's a place to network with other authors and industry professionals. But most of all, the group provides romance authors a place to share their passion for writing and their mutual goal of seeing their stories in print.
